Rights and support

There are a number of acts and ordinances that higher education institutions (HEIs) must comply with. The primary ones are the Swedish Higher Education Act and the Higher Education Act.

However, HEIs also have their own guidelines for doctoral students' rights and obligations.

There are also international regulations that affects Swedish HEIs, for example some Nordic agreements and some laws and the level of the EU.
