Students at third-cycle level must have completed first and second-cycle degrees, either in Sweden or abroad, or have equivalent qualifications.
To meet the basic entry requirements for doctoral programmes applicants must have a second-cycle degree or have completed studies for at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle, or have completed a corresponding programme in some other country or have equivalent qualifications.
Transitional regulationsApplicants who, before 1 July 2007 met the general entry requirements for admission to a third cycle programme, are considered to meet the general entry requirements until 30 June 2015.
Specific entry requirements Higher education institutions can, in addition to general entry requirements, also require the student to meet certain specific entry requirements. Specific entry requirements vary from subject to subject as they are laid down by each faculty board. These requirements must be totally necessary for a student to be able to complete the programme. Often these requirements stipulate knowledge acquired in higher education but specific vocational experience, necessary language skills or other qualifications needed to successfully complete the programme may also be required.
